The Studio
Behind the Story.

Founded at 601 Market Street in 2010, Violet Aurora began as a one-person editorial consultancy and grew into San Francisco's most trusted publishing and marketing studio.

Origin Story

14 Years of
Editorial Craft.

Violet Aurora was founded in 2010 by editorial director Maya Lindqvist, who left a senior role at a New York publishing house to build something more intimate — a studio where every project received the attention it deserved, not the attention that quarterly revenue targets permitted.

Beginning with a roster of independent authors and a single small publisher, the studio grew steadily through referral. By 2015 we had expanded into brand narrative and content strategy, serving tech companies and nonprofits alongside our publishing clients. Today, our team of twelve senior editors, strategists, and marketing specialists work on 40–50 projects at any given time.

Every client relationship is led by a senior team member. We have no account managers, no junior editors fielding calls. The person who pitches you is the person who works with you.

What We Believe

Our Editorial Values.

Four convictions that shape every project, every client relationship, every manuscript we touch.

01
On Craft
"Great writing is the unfair advantage most companies ignore."
In a world of AI-generated content, genuinely crafted prose stands out with extraordinary force. We believe in investing in words — choosing them carefully, arranging them well, and earning the reader's trust sentence by sentence.
02
On Strategy
"Publishing without strategy is printing, not storytelling."
Beautiful manuscripts fail every day. The best books find their readers because someone built a deliberate path from author to audience. We insist on strategy alongside craft — they are not in tension, they are partners.
03
On Relationships
"The editor you trust is worth more than the platform you pay for."
Tools change every year. A thoughtful editorial partner who understands your voice, your goals, and your audience is rare and valuable. We build long relationships with our clients — the median client tenure at Violet Aurora is seven years.
04
On Scale
"We grow carefully, so our standards don't dilute."
We cap our active client roster intentionally. When demand exceeds our capacity, we raise our standards rather than our headcount. Every project gets the full attention of a senior editor or strategist — that is a promise we have never broken.
The Team

Senior Editors &
Strategists.

Every client works directly with one of our senior team members — never an account manager or junior associate.
